South Dakota is pushing back the deadline for returning unspent money from a 2023 appropriation for modernizing the state's computer systems from an earlier date to June 30, 2029. This gives the state more time to complete the project before any leftover funds have to be returned to the general fund.
This bill does not directly amend codified state law.
The amendment removed language requiring appropriated funds to revert "in accordance with the procedures prescribed in chapter 4-8," instead allowing them to simply revert to the general fund on June 30, 2029, which WEAKENS the reversion requirement by eliminating procedural oversight. The change also converts the bill from introduced format to enrolled format with official signature pages, reflecting the legislative process completion rather than a substantive policy shift.
