certificate areas of preparation. A teacher shall hold a valid certificate issued by the Secretary in the respective areas of teacher preparation: (1) Early childhood; (2) Elementary; (3) Secondary; (4) Career and technical education; (5) K-12; (6) Early childhood special education; (7) K-12 special education; or (8) Alternative teacher certification issued according to §§ 24:28:11 to 24:28:14, inclusive.
