requirements for suction piping. Owners or operators of petroleum UST systems with underground piping that conveys petroleum under suction need not comply with the requirements in § 74:56:01:24 if the following conditions are met: (1) The below-grade piping operates at less than atmospheric pressure; (2) The piping is sloped so that the contents of the pipe will drain back into the storage tank if the suction is released; (3) Only one check valve is included in each suction line; (4) The check valve is located directly below and as close as practical to the suction pump. Suction piping which does not comply with the above criteria must use one of the monthly release detection methods specified in § 74:56:01:27, 74:56:01:28, or 74:56:01:30, applied to the piping or have a line pressure test every three years or must comply with other methods approved by the department that will detect the release of regulated substances.
