Changes to Existing Law

For the purposes of §§ 22-14-23 to 22-14-28, inclusive, the term, county5 courthouse, means the state capitol or any building occupied for the public sessions of a circuit6 court, with its various offices. The term includes any building appended to or used as a7 supplementary structure to a county courthouse.

Nothing in this chapter limits the power of a court to punish for contempt or to10 promulgate rules or orders regulating, restricting, or prohibiting the possession of weapons, within any building housing such a county court or any of its proceedings of a county court, or12 upon any grounds pertinent to such building.

A permit to carry a concealed pistol shall be issued to any person by the sheriff of1 the county in which the applicant resides. The permit shall be valid throughout the state and2 shall be issued pursuant to § 23-7-7.1. For purposes of verifying the qualifications of an3 applicant, prior to issuing a permit, the sheriff shall execute, and the applicant shall pass, a4 background investigation, including a computer check of available on-line records and the5 National Instant Criminal Background Check. The permit enables the person to whom it was issued to carry a concealed pistol in any location, except as otherwise prohibited by law.8
