SB149Dead
establish a restaurant meals program as part of the supplemental nutrition assistance program.
South Dakota will create a restaurant meals program allowing certain low-income households—including elderly, disabled, and homeless individuals—to use their food assistance benefits at participating restaurants to buy meals at reduced prices. This expands the existing food assistance program by letting eligible people purchase prepared meals from private restaurants instead of only buying groceries from stores. The bill also updates South Dakota's food assistance law to align with current federal regulations from 2020.
