Changes to Existing Law

Each application for the issuance or renewal of a driver license or nondriver identification card must contain the option for the applicant to consent to sharing the applicant's information with the national marrow donor program for purposes of enrolling in the bone marrow donor registry. The Department of Public Safety must, on a monthly basis, electronically transmit to the national marrow donor program the consenting applicant's: (1) Full name; 25 (2) Mailing address; (3) Date of birth; (4) Telephone number; and (5) Email address. Information transmitted from the department to the national marrow donor program may only be used for enrollment in the bone marrow donor registry and may not be further disseminated by the program without the individual's consent. 7

The Department of Public Safety shall provide each person individual renewing or applying for a driver license or nondriver identification card an opportunity to review information about organ donation, such as information available from the organ procurement organization designated by the federal government for this state and the national marrow donor program. The department shall distribute this information: (1) On the Department of Public Safety department's website; (2) Through information mailed with With each driver license and identification card renewal notice mailing; (3) On posters and brochures made available at each driver license exam station; (4) Through each driver license manual published after July 1, 2013; and (5) Through any other means the Department of Public Safety department deems appropriate.
