Every public and private school in South Dakota must now create a cardiac emergency response plan that includes a rapid-response team, clearly marked defibrillators in accessible locations, staff training in CPR and defibrillator use, and procedures for handling sudden cardiac arrest. Schools must develop these plans with local emergency services, conduct annual drills and equipment maintenance, and ensure their defibrillators are tested and maintained each year.
