South Dakota insurers are now prohibited from denying, limiting, or charging more for life, disability, or long-term care insurance based solely on someone's status as a living organ donor. The law also prevents insurers from requiring someone to promise not to become an organ donor as a condition of keeping their insurance coverage. This protects living organ donors from insurance discrimination while still allowing insurers to consider other legitimate health factors in their decisions.
