South Dakota school districts must now include instruction on prenatal human growth and development in their health or science curricula, using resources recommended by the state Board of Education Standards. The instruction must include at least three-minute videos or animations showing fetal development from fertilization through birth, including ultrasound images of the brain, heart, and other organs at various stages. Schools cannot use materials from organizations that perform abortions, promote abortion, or contract with abortion providers.
