Representatives Overweg, Emery, Jordan, Muckey, and Novstrup and Senators Crabtree, Deibert, Duhamel, Perry, and Voita A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION honoring Ashlyn Koupal of Wagner for being 1 named to the 2026 McDonald's All-American Girls Basketball Team. 2 WHEREAS, Ashlyn Koupal, a senior at Wagner High School, has achieved national 3 recognition by being selected to the prestigious McDonald's All-American Girls Basketball 4 Team, one of the highest honors in high school basketball, recognizing the top players in the 5 nation who demonstrate exceptional skill, leadership, and sportsmanship; and 6 WHEREAS, Ashlyn Koupal becomes only the second South Dakotan ever selected to 7 participate in the McDonald's All-American Game and the first female athlete from South 8 Dakota to earn this distinction, which marks a historic achievement both for her community 9 and the state; and 10 WHEREAS, throughout her career at Wagner High School, Ashlyn has demonstrated 11 outstanding athletic achievement, dedication, perseverance, and leadership in addition to 12 serving as a role model to her teammates and young athletes across South Dakota; and 13 WHEREAS, Ashlyn Koupal has committed to the University of Nebraska to continue her 14 academic and athletic careers, where she will play for Head Coach Amy Williams, of South 15 Dakota, and both Ashlyn and Coach Williams will demonstrate at the collegiate level the values 16 and work ethic of this state; and 17 WHEREAS, Ashlyn's accomplishment brings great pride to the Wagner community and to 18 the entire State of South Dakota; 19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the One Hundred First Legislature of the 20 State of South Dakota, that Ashlyn Koupal is recognized for her outstanding achievement in 21 being named to the 2026 McDonald's All-American Girls Basketball Team. 22
