South Dakota candidates and political committees are now prohibited from accepting contributions or loans from foreign nationals, foreign governments, and certain other sources. Violations are punishable as a Class 2 misdemeanor, with a second offense within a calendar year treated as a Class 1 felony. The bill takes effect immediately upon passage.
