South Dakota's unpaid repair bill law now applies to more types of vehicles beyond just motor vehicles and trailers—it now includes boats, mopeds, motorcycles, off-road vehicles, and snowmobiles. Under this expanded process, repair shops can obtain title to these unclaimed vehicles after notifying the owner in writing and waiting 30 days, allowing them to recoup unpaid repair costs. The Department of Motor Vehicles must provide shops with owner and lienholder information at no charge to facilitate this process.
