South Dakota homeowners will no longer need permits from their county, city, or township to repair or replace certain exterior parts of their homes, including doors, windows, gutters, downspouts, siding, and fencing—as long as doors and windows keep the same dimensions. Local governments can still require permits for these same repairs on historically designated properties, and homeowners must still follow all other applicable building codes and safety rules.
