12:56:05:04.13Additional standards for certification in sodium cyanide predator pest control.

In addition to meeting general standards in § 12:56:05:04, applicators seeking certification in sodium cyanide predator pest control must demonstrate a practical knowledge of mammalian predator pests. The demonstration of knowledge must include recognizing those pests and signs of their presence, identifying their habitats, and understanding their life cycles, biology, and behavior relevant to pest identification and control. Applicators must demonstrate a comprehension of all laws and regulations applicable to the use of sodium cyanide in mechanical ejection devices. Applicators must also demonstrate a practical knowledge and understanding of all use restrictions on sodium cyanide capsules and mechanical ejection devices, including: (1) The safe handling and proper placement of the sodium cyanide capsules and the ejection device; (2) The proper use of an antidote kit; (3) The notification of medical personnel before use of the device; (4) Application restrictions on when and where devices can be used; (5) Requirements to review maps, provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, before use, to avoid affecting endangered species; (6) The maximum density of mechanical ejection devices; (7) Provisions for supervising and monitoring applicators; (8) The required information exchange in locations where more than one agency is authorized to place devices; and (9) Specific requirements for recordkeeping, monitoring, field posting, proper storage, and disposal of damaged or used sodium cyanide capsules.
