A person must meet all the following criteria to be eligible to receive benefits under the optional state supplemental program: (1) The person is receiving SSI and may be receiving in-kind income; (2) The person is an adult of at least 18 years of age and not in school; (3) The person is a resident of South Dakota; and (4) The person has independent living arrangements, such as a home, apartment, hotel room, or room in a boarding house, or resides in the household of another who provides in-kind support or maintenance. Institutionalized individuals or couples living in adult foster care or assisted living arrangements are not eligible.
