Once federal law permits it, South Dakota farmers will be allowed to sell meat from their own cattle, sheep, swine, or goats directly to consumers at places like their homes, farmers markets, or roadside stands, as long as the meat was raised and processed in-state and comes with a label warning that it's uninspected and cannot be resold. The bill adds this exception to state meat regulations but only becomes effective once the U.S. Attorney General certifies that federal law has changed to legalize this type of direct-to-consumer sales.
